Drones & Dreams in Motion

$200.00

Drones & Dreams in Motion is an innovative 10-week drone program for high school students and adults that combines the industry-developed Rocket Drones curriculum, flight simulations, classroom instruction, current industry topics, and hands-on drone flying. Students receive individual login credentials to an online platform that provides documentation of training, participation, and accumulating flight experience. An annual platform license is maintained by WACO, allowing students to retain their records, add to their flight logs, and share with prospective employers.

Certification and Training Records:  As part of the course, attendees will complete the FAA's Recreational UAS Safety Test (T.R.U.S.T.)  Successful completion provides an FAA-recognized certificate documenting knowledge of recreational drone safety requirements. While the T.R.U.S.T. certificate is not a commercial drone pilot certification, it is mandatory for UAS recreational flight. Participants are introduced to real-world careers in drone technology through guest speakers and are provided a pathway to earning the remote pilot certificate for commercial drone operations.

Note: Permission Form is required to be printed, completed, and delivered to the WACO Air Museum to confirm registration

Location: The program will be held in the state-of-the-art WACO Education Center Robinson Wing on consecutive Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., beginning December 3, 2026, and culminating in a capstone activity on Thursday, February 25, 2027. (No class on December 24 or 31, 2026).

Course Fee: $200.00 includes equipment, 10 weeks of professional instruction, online curriculum access, and continued flight logbook access through an active platform license.

Program Goals:

  • Build STEM knowledge

  • Promote safety and responsibility

  • Develop technical skills

  • Encourage problem-solving and curiosity

  • Explore real-world applications

  • Introduce career and commercial certification opportunities

  • Prepare students for safe and responsible recreational drone operation and recreational certification

  • Introduce students to the pathway for obtaining FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certification

Learning Outcomes:

  • Apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts (STEM) to flight, physics, and drone design

  • Learn safe drone operation, airspace awareness, and FAA regulations

  • Understand drone components, flight principles, and how drones operate

  • Engage students through interactive lessons, challenges, and applied learning

  • Discover how drones are used in industries such as agriculture, inspection, mapping,

and media

  • Identify UAS career opportunities and describe their real-world applications

  • Complete the FAA TRUST test and earn their certificate

  • Describe the requirements and steps necessary to obtain FAA Part 107 certification

Suggested Learning Activities:

  • Weekly Lesson Preparation and Discussion: Read the assigned lesson materials before each session and participate in discussions to reinforce key concepts and encourage questions

  • UAV Current Events and Technology Updates: Review and discuss current events, emerging technologies, industry developments, and real-world applications in the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) industry

  • Flight Simulation Challenges: Participate in computer-based flight simulation exercises designed to develop flight proficiency, safety awareness, precision, smoothness, and decision-making skills

  • Hands-On Flight Training: Practice operating actual drones through guided flight exercises and skill-building challenges that develop confidence and prepare students for real-world flight operations
