“Building Bombers and Air Bases”

NOVEMBER 21, 2024 @ 7PM @ WACO AIR MUSEUM

PRESENTED BY DAVID BUCHER

“Building Bombers and Air Bases” will be presented on November 21st at 7 p.m. at WACO Air Museum. David Bucher,

WACO Trustee, Pilot and Aircraft Mechanic, will present the details of this story and reveal his personal connection with

the B24 WW2 bomber and an Army Air Base to train pilots and mechanics. This is the second lecture of the WACO

Aviation Lecture Series for the 2024/2025 lecture season.

David Bucher has served over 40 years in aviation working for air freight companies Federal Express, Emery Worldwide,

and Airborne with jobs that ranged from hands on in both flight operations and maintenance, to positions in senior

management. During his career, David learned about building the B24 bomber while spending a significant amount of

time at the former B24 plant at Willow Run Airport outside Ypsilanti, Michigan. During other parts of his career, David had

direct contact with local residents who lived in Smyrna, Tennessee during WWII, and through visits to the local historical

society, learned how aviation personnel were trained to fly and maintain this new 4 engine bomber at the Smyrna Army

Air Base. David holds a commercial pilot, single and multi-engine, instrument, turbojet flight engineer, Airframe &

Powerplant (A&P) mechanic with Inspection Authorization (IA). David has been a member of the Waco Historical Society

Trustee board since 1997 and this will be his third presentation in the WACO Aviation Lecture Series.
