This winter, come participate in a new design challenge being hosted by the WACO Museum and Learning Center. Instead of letting the weather keep you cooped up inside, we invite you to take part in a project that many of the greatest minds in history have puzzled over. What is this puzzle? Why, creating a flying machine of course!
To keep kids engaged in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities throughout the cold winter months, we have designed a competition that will put their design skills to the test. The challenge is to research, design, and build a flying machine capable of flying over 5 meters. Teams will consist of 4‐8 members of the recommended 9‐14 age group. Each team will be given 10 weeks to come up with an idea that meets all the criteria provided at the start of the competition.
The challenge is styled after other similar design competitions such as First Lego League. Each team will be required to compile the information they learn and present that on the competition day. The teams will also be given a chance to operate their machine with a goal of carrying the most weight over the 5 meters. Throughout the process, team members will be challenged to learn and grow together as they design their machine.
The competition will start the week of January 23 rd and competition day will be April 1 st . The cost will be $50 per participant which will help to cover the costs associated with the competition and help provide a budget to build the machines the teams designed. For more information on the competition please contact Tom Moser at email@example.com and for registration please contact Nancy Royer at firstname.lastname@example.org . We look forward to hearing from you soon!
