"Women of WACO" WACO Museum Exhibit
April 5- June 1, 2008, Saturdays and
Sundays 1-5pm.
Learn about these fascinating women and the WACO airplanes they
flew from 1929-1941.This original exhibit features photographs of the
"Women of WACO' and , many of their airplanes along with biographies that
will allow you to gain greater insight into the interesting stories of these
women's lives. Photographs have been provided by private collectors, Museum
of Women Pilots and the WACO Historical Society photo collection. Call

"Wing on Strings", Family Kite Fly
Sponsored by the WACO Historical Society
and The Troy Noon Optimist Club Sunday May 4 from 1-4pm.
Volunteers set up
stations and assist with kite making activities so all in attendance can
make free kites. Attendees will enjoy flying their newly constructed
handmade kites and exercising their kite flying abilities with kites from
their personal collections. "Wings on Strings" prizes to be awarded include
the smallest and the largest kite, the youngest and the oldest participate,
the coolest kite. Check

"Silent Wings - The American Glider Pilots of WWI" - In commemoration of the
64th anniversary of WACO Gliders taking off for the D-Day invasion ,the
WACO Museum will hold a public showing of the documentary film "Silent Wings
- The American Glider Pilots of WWII". From the early race to build gliders
to the D-Day invasion at Normandy and Nazi Germany's final surrender, Silent
Wings - The American Glider Pilots of WWII narrated by Hal Holbrook, reveals
the critical role gliders played in World War II offensives. Through rare
archival footage and photographs, the film places the audience right at the
center of the action in the dangerous world of the American glider pilot.
Movie will be shown on an outdoor screen at dark. Please bring lawn chairs.
Friday, June 6
D-Day & Beyond
Military vehicles and re-enactors will arrive and begin setting up displays
of equipment and field fortifications of the WWII era.
The field and Museum will be open from 6-9pm. Vintage aircraft will start
arriving as well.

Strawberry Fly-In
Chapter 36 of the Vintage Aircraft Association (VAA) is proud to host the
5th Annual Strawberry Fly-In at Historic WACO
Field .
The Strawberry Fly-in is free and open to the public with free
parking and shuttle service available to the Strawberry Festival from
Historic WACO Field on Saturday and Sunday. Vintage aircraft, WACO ride
pilots and historical interpreters will be on hand both days and don't
forget to visit the WACO Museum while during your visit to Historic WACO
Field.
June 14-15
D-Day & Beyond-WACO Glider Weekend
The Museum will be open 1-5 pm and will
feature special displays on the
WWII Campaigns in which gliders were used. A
special presentation will be given 2:30 pm Sunday
on the construction of the
mainstay of the US glider fleet, the CG4A, which was designed by the
WACO
Aircraft Co. 1074 of them were built here as well. If you would like to take
part i
n the presentation or display material you are welcome.
June 21-22
D-Day & Beyond-WACO Glider Weekend & Employee Program
Our focus this week-end will be on the WACO
factory during the War so memorabilia,
oral histories and photos will be
featured. There will be a special program at 2:30
Sunday on the workers at
WACO who built the gliders. Families and descendants will be
our special guests
for the afternoon.

The Troy Historical Society and others will
join the WACO Historical Society in presenting
displays and exhibits dealing
with life on the home front. 2:30 Sunday
there will be a talk on other Miami
County companies that aided in the drive to victory.

photos and letters you might want to share are welcome.

July 4 Historic WACO Field will host an old
fashioned 4th of July picnic. Groups and
individuals participating in
parades and celebrations are cordially invited to
spend the afternoon picnicing
on our grounds and relaxing from the day’s
prior activities. Military displays
will be on view for the entire weekend.
Saturday and Sunday will see WACO Field
return to its
normal schedule, that is, open to the public1-5 and RC Flying as
usual.

This brand new RC Flying Event features Freestyle Competition, Helicopters,
Airplanes,

Flying Seminars, and for those with an interest to try their hand at RC flying
,
Buddy Box flying. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the day.

“Bicycles in Flight” WACO Museum Show Opens
View a timeline of historical bicycles and displays that speak to the
connections of t
he bicycle and aviation. This exhibit is jointly presented in collaboration with
the
National Parks ,local collectors and the WACO Historical Society.

WACO Bicycle Music Tour:
Enjoy a bicycle tour that starts and ends on WACO Field and routes
participates
along the Great Miami County Recreational Trail and other destination with a
choice of the length of ride you chose Velo Racing, of Troy, a non-profit youth
bicycle racing team, and the Miami County Parks District are partnering with
WACO to provide support for this event.

WACO Music Festival
Musical rhythms fly through the air during this home grown event featuring
local musicians on an outdoor stage venue. Drive, fly or ride in by bicycle
to join in the first ever WACO Music Festival. Please bring your lawn chairs and
enjoy the music

WACO Wag-In Dog Fest
A fund day of demonstrations of Dog Agility, Frisbee Dog and Fly Ball by
experienced area teams. View the “Parade of Breeds”, dog tricks and a doggy
fashion show.
Canine related non profits and business will set up during the event to educate
and entice attendee
with dog related products.

WACO Homecoming Fly-In
WACO Banquet September 20th 6:00pm
This year’s WACO Homecoming is sure to be a memorable experience for all who
attend
and enjoy the WACOS and other vintage airplanes expected for the Fly –In from
all parts of the United States.
WACO pilots will provide WACO rides in their beautiful open
cockpit biplanes
September 19 through September 21 .If you prefer to view Fly-In activities from
the ground,
view and enjoy the “Parade of WACOS” slated for Saturday afternoon and
then browse the field.
The WACO Learning Center will show case their hands
on activities including paper airplanes, rockets, helicopters and much more are
always favorites for young people of all ages. Browse the tent displays where
area non-profits will have table top displays providing information about their
organizations. From 9am-2pm visit the Aviation Fly-Market where restorers can
purchase aircraft parts to keep vintage aircraft flying.
WACO Fly-In admission is $5.00 for adults and is
free to students 18years and under, parking is free.
Admission to the WACO Fly-In also includes entry to the WACO Museum that
showcases new and
expanded exhibits including the WACO primary glider, 1902 Wright Brothers Glider
replica, the WACO 4,
the WACO Cootie replica, the Mackey Taperwing, and a WACO UPF-7. Many
spectacular photo murals
grace the walls of the 7500 square foot
facility. Additional exhibits feature some of the thousands of rare WACO
photographs held by the WACO Historical Society and numerous WACO factory and
WWII WACO combat glider artifacts and photos. The museum also features 10 WACO
RC models, some interactive displays, a museum
theater /classroom, numerous WACO and other vintage aircraft scale models,
radial aircraft engines, vintage
propellers, a museum archive library and a museum gift shop you will want to
explore.
